Opening Activities
Moderator Jim Kitchens called the meeting to order, with a quorum present, at 9:35 a.m. in the sanctuary of the Community Presbyterian Church, Vacaville. Moderator Kitchens gave the opening prayer. Host pastor, the Rev. Thomas Smith, welcomed the Presbytery to this church
with several bits of “wisdom” from Garrison Keillor, together with the other necessary information.
Corresponding members were introduced and seated: Jerry Tabler from Northeast Georgia; Rebecca Lawson, Mission co-worker, United Church of Christ, Philippines; Michael Spezio, Susquehannah Valley; Michael Hagen, Los Ranchos Presbytery.
First-time Commissioners were introduced and seated.

the vote, Susan was welcomed by the Presbytery. Moderator

To assist congregations dealing with physical hunger the Hunger Action Enabler’s time has been increased from 1/2 time to 3/4 time. Please encourage your congregation to call upon her for help
Spiritual hunger and emotional needs exist and need to be met. For help in this area the social action consultation group is available to your congregation by calling the SMP office or Warren Barnes.
Exploration is being held regarding the formation of a bioethics working group in conjunction with the Health Ministry Task Force.

Congregational Support -- John Moser
They are the Sacramento Indonesian Presbyterian Fellowship. They are meeting at Westminster Church. They have a reformed heritage and theology. Jim Tion, a lay leader, Chair of this group was introduced, together with Stefan Androtna, from the San Jose NCD. Jim expressed thanks to Aart Van Beek and David Thompson for their support. He told of the deep roots of the Presbyterian reformed faith in Indonesia, due to the efforts of the missionaries. He explained the process they have been working through in order to form their NCD. Thanks was expressed to the Presbytery, SMP and Byron Nelson for all their help.
+++ A formal vote on establishing this NCD will be taken at the next Presbytery meeting.

“Confessions of a Failed Liberal (and Conservative)”
was the title of the sermon given by the Rev. Jim Kitchens.
The Rev. Dan Fowler provided the special music.

Closing Worship and Installation of Elder John Peirce as 2003 Moderator
Moderator
Jim Kitchens led in the Litany for Moderator
Installation, followed with the singing of the hymn Here
I am Lord. The Constitutional Questions were asked
by Moderator Kitchens followed by prayer. After receiving
affirmative answers to all questions the Symbols of the
office were bestowed upon Mr. Peirce. They included the
Moderator’s Stole and gavel.
A gift of appreciation was presented to outgoing Moderator
Kitchens by the new Moderator Peirce, on behalf of the
Presbytery.
Past Moderators of the Presbytery, present today, were
asked to stand and be recognized.
