CALL TO PRESBYTERY
The next stated meeting of the Presbytery of Sacramento will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Sacramento. The meeting will be called to order by Moderator Rev. James Kitchens at 2:00 p.m. and will end by 8:00 p.m. We will gather for registration and fellowship at 1:30. A map with directions to the church is posted on the Presbytery website, www.sacpresby.org, and is included on the back of this page for those without email.
As was stated in the Pre-Call sent out the first of April, all requests for tables, special equipment or childcare are due to the Stated Clerk by Monday, May 6th. She can be reached at any of the numbers listed below. In addition, any substantive changes or additions that are in the hands of the Stated Clerk by Thursday, May 9th, will be posted on the Internet at that time.
In line with our emphasis on developing healthy congregations, we have invited Dr. Peter Pizor of Churchwright Associates to speak to us on using conflict as a positive tool for change. With the current world-wide climate so heavy with conflict and suspicion, this topic should be helpful not only to us as Presbyterians, but as members of the human race.
First Presbyterian Church of Redding has called the Reverend Charles K. Moore to be pastor, with a projected start date of June 1, 2002. His statement of faith is included in this packet. Rev. Moore comes to our presbytery from Burley, ID, and has served in churches in Washington and Oregon. Locally, he is a graduate of Cordova High School and was a youth intern at Fair Oaks Church. Thus, we will be able to welcome him home!
Included in this mailing is information on the projected changes in the structure of the Sierra Mission Partnership. This will be a first reading of this material; the second reading and vote will come at the September 27/28 Presbytery meeting to be held in Redding. (That is a not-so-subtle hint to plan ahead!)
Also, the following will be considered in a second reading followed by a vote:
Churches in the Sacramento Presbytery are requested to include an offering at all ordination and installation services for ministers; the money to go to a designated account, which the Committee on Preparation for Ministry will oversee and utilize to provide financial help to Inquirers/Candidates.
