This is just a sampling of the many verses that have given us guidance on what to believe and relate to God, how to live and treat each other and our environment, and for strength and consolation in times of adversity.

See if you can find the following ideas in these verses:

God Created
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1 RSV. .... And God saw every thing that he had made, and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31 RSV.

Jesus is the Word
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:1-5 RSV.

Be glad, God made us, we are his people, and he is merciful
"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God;; it is he that hath made us, and not we our selves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Psalms 100 KJV

The Lord is my Shepherd
"The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for though art with me; they rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." Psalms 23 KJV

10 Commandments in Deuteronomy.
"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
1) You shall have no other gods before me.
2) You shall not make yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
3) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
4) Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, or your manservant, or your maidservant, or your ox, or your ass, or any of your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your manservant and your maidservant may rest as well as you. You shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out thence with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day.
5) Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with you, in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
6) You shall not kill.
7) Neither shall you commit adultery.
8) Neither shall you steal.
9) Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor.
10) Neither shall you covet your neighbor's wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's.
These words the Lord spoke to all your assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the deep gloom, with a loud voice; and he added no more. And he wrote them upon two tables of stone, and gave them to me." Deu 5:6-22 RSV (Italics indicates a difference in wording in Exodus)

10 Commandments in Exodus.
Moses went down to the people and told them. And God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
1) You shall have no other gods before me.
2) You shall not make yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
3) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
4) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your manservant, or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who is within your gates; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
5) Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.
6) You shall not kill.
7) You shall not commit adultery.
8) You shall not steal.
9) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10) You shall not covet your neighbor's house; and you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidsevant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's.
Ex 20:1-17 RSV(Italics indicates a differance in wording in Deuteronomy)

God loves us, and gives us eternal life if we believe in his Son
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 RSV.

We are save through God's grace and our faith
"For by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God-- not because of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 RSV.

Salvation
Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For no human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins; it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies him who has faith in Jesus. Rom 3:19-26.

God gives us power when we gather in his name and agree
"Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew 18:19-20 RSV.

Ways of life to avoid. Fruits of the spirit are ...
"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh." "Now the works of the flesh are plain: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self- control; against such there is no law." Galations 5:16,19-22

God dwells in you. Take care of your body.
"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple is you." 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 RSV.

Lord's Prayer.
... Matthew 6:9-13

Lord's Prayer.
... Luke 11:1-4

The Holy Spirit prays for us.
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words." Romans 8:26 RSV.

If we are in Him, God takes care of us.
"We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 RSV.

Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God
"He has showed you O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God." Michah 6:8 RSV.

Learn the Lord's ways. Learn war no more.
""Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide for many peoples and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." Isaiah 2:3-4 RSV.

Love means...
"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophesy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledges, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to the feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind, charity envieth not, charity vaunteth not itself, in not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come; then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face; now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope charity, these three but the greatest of these is charity. 1 Corinthians 13 KJV

1st & 2nd Commandments. Love God. Love your neighbor.
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law? And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." Matthew 22:36-40 RSV

Faith without works, is dead.
"What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith same him? If a brother or sister is ill clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, we warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? So faith by itself, if it has not works, is dead." James 2:14-17 RSV.

Go out and make disciples
"And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."" Matthew 28:18-20 RSV.

Do the Lord's work and don't look back.
"Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." Luke 9:62 RSV
