NEWS FLASH

Attention: This web site is under major reconstruction. It is being reformed from a site I started 9 years ago primarily for Bethany Presbyterian Church in South Sacramento to a site now dedicated to help people seeking answers and information about religion, God, Jesus, the Reformed Faith, Presbyterian denominations and Presbyterian Churches in south Sacramento. This reformation will take some time but eventually there will be new formats and new pages to help the wonderers and seekers, and disenchanted to find a community of faith in which to strengthen or establish their spirtual ties to God.

  Presbyterianism is from the reformed tradition which split off from Roman Catholicism due to the work done by John Calvin in the 1500's. (See History of the PC(USA)) As part of a connectional church they also belong to:

Statement of Belief

The Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA) consists of the Book of Order and the Book of Confessions.

The Book of Order contains the:

• Form of Government,
• Directory of Worship, and
• Rules of Discipline.

The Form of Government states that Jesus Christ is the head of the church. That Christ gets his authority from God, and that he called the Church into being for the service of God. He gives the Church its faith and life. That insofar as Christ's will has been set forth in Scripture it is to be obeyed. That all matters of worship and government of the Church are to be ordered in accordance with the Word by reason of sound judgment, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The Book of Confessions contains the:

• Nicene Creed (381 AD),
• Apostle's Creed (180-750 AD),
• Scot's Confession (1560 AD),
• Heidelberg Catechism (1563 AD),
• Second Helvetic Confession (1561 AD),
• Westminster Confession of Faith (1646 AD),
• Shorter Catechism (1649 AD),
• Larger Catechism (1649 AD),
• Theological Declaration of Barmen (1934 AD),
• Confession of 1967 (1967 AD), and
• A Brief Statement of Faith - PC(USA) (1983 AD).

The above Confessions of Faith identify the Church as a community of people known by its convictions as well as by its actions. They guide the Church in its study and interpretation of the Scripture they summarize the essence of Christian tradition they direct the Church in maintaining sound doctrines; they equip the Church for its work of proclamation.

These confessional statements are subordinate standards in the Church, subject to the authority of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, as the Scriptures bear witness to him.

In its confessions the PC(USA) gives witness to the faith of the Church catholic. They express the faith of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church as expressed in the Nicene and Apostle's Creed.

The confessions also express the faith of the Reformed tradition.
